Dogbahgen Alphonso Yarseah is a PhD candidate in Counseling Psychology at Ekiti State University (EKSU), Nigeria, where he has successfully completed and defended his doctoral thesis and is currently awaiting external examination.
His academic training spans several disciplines, including a Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling, a Master of Science in Personnel Psychology, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, and a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies. His interdisciplinary academic background has shaped his interest in understanding psychological wellbeing within broader social, cultural, institutional, and post-conflict contexts.
Yarseah’s research has particularly focused on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex PTSD (CPTSD), trauma exposure, experiential avoidance, health beliefs, refugee mental health, and intergenerational consequences of displacement. His work combines psychological theory with empirical methods to examine how individuals and communities respond to adversity, particularly in African and post-conflict settings.
His research experience includes work with healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria, examining psychological and behavioral pathways associated with PTSD, experiential avoidance, and health beliefs. He has also conducted research involving older adults in Ekiti State and has undertaken research with Liberian and Sierra Leonean refugee children in Nigeria, examining trauma, psychological wellbeing, and the retention and attrition of heritage languages among displaced populations.
Beyond his academic and research activities, Dogbahgen Alphonso Yarseah has professional experience in the educational and textbook industry through Varsities Book Services, a company involved in supplying academic books and educational resources to tertiary institutions. Through the company, he has supplied books to higher-education institutions to support their library and academic-resource requirements, including requirements associated with TETFund interventions and National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation exercises.
